Shawwal/ Eidul Fitr 1429 Announcement

Based on confirmed verified reports of crescent sightings in Florida and trinidad the hilal committee of Toronto has declared the 1st of shawwal / eid ul fitr 1429 to be on wednesday 1st October 2008

The hilal committee with it's membership of more than 80 organizations wishes one and all a very blessed and joyful Eid ul fitr

Ramadan 1429 Announcement

Based on the traditional Prophetic method of sighting the moon, with its criteria, after thorough deliberation and investigation, the Hilal Committee of the Metropolitan Toronto Area, unanimously with its membership of over 80 mosques / Islamic centers with the leadership of various Ulama / Islamic scholars present, hereby declares that there were no reliable, verifiable, valid reports of sighting of the crescent (hilal) on the eve of Sunday the 29th of Shaban (31st of August, 2008) anywhere in North America or the Caribbean. Hence, the month of Shaban will complete its cycle of 30 days and the;

1st day of the blessed month of Ramadan (1st day of fasting) will be on the Tuesday the 2nd of September 2008. Ramadan Kareem to one and all.

FALSE REPORTS

Reports of sighting in Montreal and Chicago were thoroughly investigated. We spoke directly to the scholars in the vicinity who were in contact with the 2 persons in Montreal and 3 persons in Chicago who claimed to see the crescent. These reports of sighting were deemed to be false as per the criteria of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and also the astronomical data. According to the precisely calculated astronomical data, there were no possibilities what so ever to see the crescent anywhere in North America on the eve of Sunday August 31st, 2008. Numerous other Islamic organizations in North America & the Caribbean who adhere to the traditional method of sighting the moon for Islamic months as practiced by our Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) have also declared & endorsed this decision, including the following organizations; Hilal Sighting Committees of North America including New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Texas, California, and also endorsed by ICNA (Islamic Circle of North America - American Head Office), Zaytuna Institute, Shariah Board of America, Ulema Council of North America, Crescent Watch, Hilal Base, Moon Hotline, Islamic Moon, Darul Uloom Trinidad & Tabago, CIOG - Central Islamic Organization of Guyana, Islamic Academy of Barbados and many others

Shaban 1429 Announcement

The hilal for Shabaan was not sighted on Friday the 1st of August. Therefore we completed 30days of Rajab and the first of Shabaan was on Sunday 3rd of August.
Correspondingly the 15th of Shaaban will fall on Sunday 17th August.

Ramadan Hilal Committee Meeting

The next meeting of hilal committee will InsahAllah be held on Sunday the 29th Shabaan . The meeting will be held at Jamia Islamia Mississauga after Maghrib salah.

he hilal/crescent was sighted in California among other cities across North America on Thursday, July 3, 2008 (29th of Jumaadal Thaani). Therefore, the 1st of Rajab will be on Friday, July 4th, 2008.

Jumaadal Thaani 1429

The hilal/crescent was sighted in Florida, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and other cities across North America on Wednesday, June 4, 2008 (29th of Jumaadal Uoola). Therefore, the 1st of Jumaadal Thaani will be on Thursday, June 5th, 2008.

Jumaadal Uoola 1429

The hilal/crescent was not sighted in the designated parameters of North & South America on the evening of Monday, May 5th 2008. Therefore Rabiul Thaani will complete its cycle of 30 days and the 1st of Jumaadal Uoola will be on Wednesday, corresponding the 7th of May 2008.
 

Rabiul Thaani 1429 Announcement

The hilal/crescent was sighted in the designated parameters of North & South America (including Austin Texas) on the evening of Sunday, April 6th 2008. Therefore the 1st of Rabiul Thaani is Monday, corresponding the 7th of April 2008.
