The hilal for the month of Rajab was sighted here in Toronto and other various cities across North America on Tuesday evening 29th Jumada al Thani (23rd June 2009).

There fore the month of Rajab starts as of Wednesday 24th June 2009. The eve of 27 Rajab will be on Sunday 19 July, 2009.

EID UL ADHA will be on Monday December 8th 2008

Based on confirmed verified reports of crescent sightings in Florida and Guyana the Hilal Committee of Toronto has declared the 1st of Dhul Hijjah 1429 to be on Saturday 29th of November 2008. Accordingly, EID UL ADHA will be on Monday December 8th 2008.

The Hilal Committee with it's membership of more than 80 organizations wishes one and all a very blessed and joyful Eid Ul Adha.

No confirmed reports of sighting. The 1st of Dhul Qaadah is on Friday 31 Oct 2008

There was no confirmed sighting of Hilal for the month of Dhul'qada on Wednesday October 29th. Therefore the month of Shawwal completed 30days and 1st of Dhul'qada was on Friday, corresponding with 31st October 2008.

Correspondingly the 29th Of Dhul'qada will fall on Friday 28th of November 2008.

Ramadan 1429 Announcement

Based on the traditional Prophetic method of sighting the moon, with its criteria, after thorough deliberation and investigation, the Hilal Committee of the Metropolitan Toronto Area, unanimously with its membership of over 80 mosques / Islamic centers with the leadership of various Ulama / Islamic scholars present, hereby declares that there were no reliable, verifiable, valid reports of sighting of the crescent (hilal) on the eve of Sunday the 29th of Shaban (31st of August, 2008) anywhere in North America or the Caribbean. Hence, the month of Shaban will complete its cycle of 30 days and the;

1st day of the blessed month of Ramadan (1st day of fasting) will be on the Tuesday the 2nd of September 2008. Ramadan Kareem to one and all.

FALSE REPORTS

Reports of sighting in Montreal and Chicago were thoroughly investigated. We spoke directly to the scholars in the vicinity who were in contact with the 2 persons in Montreal and 3 persons in Chicago who claimed to see the crescent. These reports of sighting were deemed to be false as per the criteria of fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence) and also the astronomical data. According to the precisely calculated astronomical data, there were no possibilities what so ever to see the crescent anywhere in North America on the eve of Sunday August 31st, 2008. Numerous other Islamic organizations in North America & the Caribbean who adhere to the traditional method of sighting the moon for Islamic months as practiced by our Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) have also declared & endorsed this decision, including the following organizations; Hilal Sighting Committees of North America including New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Texas, California, and also endorsed by ICNA (Islamic Circle of North America - American Head Office), Zaytuna Institute, Shariah Board of America, Ulema Council of North America, Crescent Watch, Hilal Base, Moon Hotline, Islamic Moon, Darul Uloom Trinidad & Tabago, CIOG - Central Islamic Organization of Guyana, Islamic Academy of Barbados and many others

Shaban 1429 Announcement

The hilal for Shabaan was not sighted on Friday the 1st of August. Therefore we completed 30days of Rajab and the first of Shabaan was on Sunday 3rd of August.
Correspondingly the 15th of Shaaban will fall on Sunday 17th August.

The hilal/crescent was not sighted in the designated parameters of North & South America on the evening of Monday, May 5th 2008. Therefore Rabiul Thaani will complete its cycle of 30 days and the 1st of Jumaadal Uoola will be on Wednesday, corresponding the 7th of May 2008.

The hilal/crescent was sighted in the designated parameters of North & South America (including Austin Texas) on the evening of Sunday, April 6th 2008. Therefore the 1st of Rabiul Thaani is Monday, corresponding the 7th of April 2008.

Rabiul Awwal 1429 Announcement

The hilal/crescent was not sighted in the designated parameters of North & South America on the evening of Friday, March 7th 2008. Therefore the 1st of Rabiul Awwal is Sunday, corresponding the 9th of March 2008.

The 12th Rabiul Awwal will be on Thursday 20th March 2008.

The hilal/crescent was sighted in the designated parameters of North & South America namely California on the evening of Thursday, February 7th 2008. Therefore the 1st of Safar is Friday, corresponding the 8th of February 2008.

Muharram 1429 / Islamic New Year Announcement

The hilal/crescent was Not sighted in the designated parameters of North & South America on the evening of Tuesday, January 8th 2008. Therefore the 1st of Muharram is Thursday, corresponding the 10th of January 2008.

The 10th of Muharram (Aashoora) will fall on Saturday, corresponding to the 19th of January, 2008.

Eidul Adha / Zhul Hijjah 1428 Announcement

The Hilal Committee of Metropolitan Toronto & Vicinity, based upon physical sighting of the moon with the naked eye, supported by astronomical data for the possibility of moon sighting in its designated parameter of Canada, USA & some of the Caribbean countries, announces the first of Zhul Hijjah 1428 to be on Tuesday 11 December, 2007. The Ulama & Representatives of the GTA masajid present at the meeting declared the above decision based upon a confirmed sighting in Barbados.

We hereby announce EID UL ADHA to be on THURSDAY 20 DECEMBER 2007.

Ramadan 1428 Announcement

The Hilal Committee of Metropolitan Toronto & Vicinity, based upon physical sighting of the moon with the naked eye, supported by astronomical data for the possibility of moon sighting in its designated parameter of Canada, USA & some of the Caribbean countries, announces the first of Ramadan (first day of fasting) to be on Thursday 13 September, 2007. Shaykh Moulana Khalil Sufi, chair of the meeting along with other Ulama present declared the above decision based upon a confirmed sighting in Barbados.

Shaban Announcement

There has been no confirmation of Hilal Sighting on the 29th Rajab from across the North America and the Caribbean. Therefore the Hilal Committee Of Metropolitan Toronto and Vicinity declares Tuesday 14th August to be 30th Rajab and 1st of Shaban on Wednesday corresponding with 15the August 2007.

Correspondingly the 15th of Sha’ban will be on Wednesday 29th of August, and the night of Barat will be Tuesday night, Wednesday Morning.

Hilal Committee Members Meeting (Sunday 10 June 2007 @ 10 AM to 2 PM)

This is to inform you that The Hilal Committee of Toronto will be having a special General Membership meeting InshaAllah on
Sunday the 10th of June 2007.

The morning session is strictly for the reps of member organizations of Hilal Committee.

The afternoon sessions after salatul Zuhur will be open to general public. Organisations can make announcement in this
regard.

Resolution of Meeting with the Ulama

A meeting with the Ulama was held on 27/11/2005 to discus whether the Caribbean should be included in the North American Matla (horizon) for hilal sighting. After lengthy discussions by the Ulama & Muftis, a unanimous resolution was passed by the Ulama of the Hilal Committee of Toronto & Vicinity that our North American Matla (horizon) guidelines for moon sighting will remain as is without including the Caribbean islands/ territories.

There have been no valid confirmed reports of hilal/ moon sighting anywhere in North America. The Hilal Committee of Toronto & Vicinity announces that the month of Ramadan will complete its cycle of 30 days and the 1st of Shawwal (Eid ul Fitr) will be on Friday corresponding November 04, 2005.

The Hilal Committee personnel (scholars and astronomy professionals) spoke directly to all those who claimed to see the crescent in cities across North America and the frail reports did not meet the sharee/religious principles to declare the commencement of the new lunar month. The alleged sighting reports also went against all professional astronomical data & calculations.

Please note that according to Fiqh when the horizon is clear, then it is necessary for a multitude of people to give testimony for eye witnessing the new moon.
